Dorothy Dobbie is the founder and president of Pegasus Publications Inc., publishers of the Local Gardener magazines, The Hub, Lifestyles 55, Smart Biz and several other directories and publications.
A former member of Parliament (1988-1993), Dorothy Dobbie served as parliamentary secretary in several portfolios including Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Consumer and Corporate Affairs and the Environment. She co-chaired the Dobbie-Beaudoin Joint House-Senate constitutional committee on the Renewal of Canada and spoke to the United Nations as part of her many duties.
She hosts a popular weekly radio show, the Gardener, on 680 CJOB; is the author of several plant and garden guides, co-wrote the Book of Ten Neat things, and produces the weekly e-newsletter called 10 Neat Things. She is active on social media with a blog, Gardening Canuck, and on Twitter. She also writes for her several publications.
Mrs. Dobbie has a long record of community involvement having served as chair or on the executive of countless community and national boards. She chaired the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2012 and chaired the 2012 National Arts Summit.
She currently serves as vice-president of Nostalgia Radio CJNU. She is also finance chair of the Board of the International Peace Gardens, a member of the Board of Tree Canada, an adjudicator on the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council and a member or the Canadian Arts Summit Advocacy Committee. She serves on several other boards and committees.
She is the recipient of several awards and medals, among them, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, The Commemorative Medal for the 125th anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, the Distinguished Service Award from the Former Manitoba members of the Legislature, Outstanding Business Citizen of the Year from the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and the Community Service Award of Winnipeg among other tributes and awards.
