It all started a while ago, when she was a student and on the University of Manitoba paper, with a phone invitation from the Winnipeg Free Press to become their campus correspondent. After that, journalism, and often the Free Press, had her in its grip. The Free Press hired her three more times, and in betweenthere was the CBC and Observer Foreign News Service in Europe (on the production side),the Montreal Star, Ottawa Citizen and (on a twice-a-week, freelance basis) Southam News Services, in Montreal and Ottawa, and most recently Pegasus Publications, with work on its Gardeners, Lifestyles and The Hub.
She’s watched over court rooms, at levels ranging from magistrate’s court and county court in Manitoba to the Supreme Court of Canada, and governing bodies from suburban councils and Winnipeg’s short-lived Metro council up (literally) to the House of Commons and Parliament Hill. Looking back, it’s been for her a great jumble of bright and interesting people, a continuing challenge – and seriously, she says, great fun and a great way to experience this country of ours.
